Baby Kiln Opening | Frozen Pond Fail | Speedball Test Plate | Lemon Bread Plate
Happy 4th of July Baby Kiln Opening!
This one is short but sweet and packed with lots of great information.
First time trying the super popular Frozen Pond technique and it was a fail… or was it? You decide. Thanks to Kathy McGuire who first shared this glaze idea!
The new Speedball colors look great on the test plate and I will be doing more testing and an in depth comparison to the existing Speedball underglaze colors.
Finally I share the super cute Lemon Bread Plate which I made and glazes in recent tutorials that you can find on ClayShare.com
Firing info:
Those pieces were fired to cone 5 on medium speed with a 1 hour and 30 minute preheat then a 18 minute hold at the end in an L&L DLH11-DX test kiln.

This week was all about microwave Raku here at the studio. I have never done microwave Raku before so what do I do? Teach a live class on how to do (and not do) Microwave Raku! You can watch the full length Microwave class on ClayShare. I also share how I keep track of all the different clay I use with my fancy shelf labeling system. Spoiler alert it’s a pencil. How do you keep track of pieces ...

Welcome to another week in the pottery studio. Monday we took a day away from the studio and celebrated our Anniversary with a day trip to Lake George, NY. Let there be (more) lighter! We installed new studio lights and added some overhead lights to make the filming area brighter and to get rid of some distracting shadows on my filming work table! I am developing a few new glaze colors for Fall...

That show will be July 1-26, 2024 in the Rockwell Gallery at the Salamgundi in...

Переглядів 2,9 тис.Місяць тому
What a week this has been! I survived birthday week, Open Studio Weekend and fired my kilns 7 times(2 bisque and 5 glaze firings!) The Dare mug I made for my daughter turned out fabulous and she loved it. In so glad because it took 3 hours for me to paint the design on with underglazes. I didn’t all free hand and although I have pretty good drawing skills I only had one mug to put the design on...

New Celadon Glaze Combos and Muffin Pans!
I wish everyone would stop using the word fail!! It’s so overused now, for just about everything
HAPPY 4TH
That’s an awfully beautiful “fail”. 😊
Love to see a kiln opening from you!
The effect is still there…. I do really like it.
I had better definition of the RHC dots by using two or 3 coats and putting them between the obsidian and the top glaze. Your bowl still looks awesome!
Jessica I think these are beautiful I loved all three of them. Iv never seen the pond version being made look forward to seeing this one day in class. Good job n I hope you and your family are doing as good as you can be ❤❤
I really like the burnt orange. The lilac is nice too. What’s your favorite?
Beautiful test bowl. I often make second tests using the accent colors as main colors, and the accent ones as main… It gives an idea of how the different colors behave in the same conditions. And it can make a nice set! Have a nice day 😊
Love it all!!!
Use ust 2 coats of obsidian. If you are sponge painting the other two colors you may need three dots as the sponge tends to be more uneven. If brushing use two coats of each
I love the bowl Jess!❤
I find that 2 coats of obsidian works better, less color is absorbed by that dark glaze
Morning Jess!
Morning!
I think is preety
Thanks! So do I. It’s not what I was going for but still a great bowl!
I like it
☺️
To lose a tool less often, put some bright nail polish all around the non contact area! (Acrylic paint also works, but polish is quicker to grab and complete!)
Great suggestion
GR pottery forms are the best - everyone knows that! We are all so grateful to Jeff. He's a legend. :)
Jeff really is the best!
Super helpful Jessica and Drew
Glad it was helpful!☺️
Awesome.
Thanks!
Nothing like this in Iceland ...but we can buy from one store in Reykjavik..they have a little bit of everything..lol
We do have a lot of options here in the US, sometimes I think there are too many choices!😂
Where did you get the little metal trashcans for the reduction chamber? :)
I found them on Amazon and added them to the ClayShare Amazon shop in the Raku section. Amazon.com/shop/clayshare
@@JessicaPutnamPhillipsthank you!
The lake blue is amazing - on both clay bodies
Thank you! It’s always been one of my favorite glazes!
This is so exciiting - cant waIt to see the Japanese Pottery Masters! Thank you for this!
You’re so very welcome! I am going to try and do a longer tour and interview with Bernard Pucker and the history of his gallery and relationship with these Japanese masters.
THANK YOU so much for your information, you are making me HAPPY❣
You are so very welcome!❤️
Where are the cats 🐈 haha😅
🤣
What is name of shop to purchase the drape molds and leaf molds?
The drape molds come from grpotteryforms.com and the leaf molds are from learnfiredarts.com
Excellent information! So thankful I found this!!!
Glad it was helpful!☺️
❤
Hi when is the program on making ceramics in the microwave please
The microwave Raku class was last week on ClayShare.com or you can download the ClayShare app and watch it there. ☺️
Where do you download the Netta form?
All of our rim templates are available on ClaySharemarket.com
Thank you 😊
I'm not understanding why you put some clay in the hole with the screw?
The clay will hold the screw in place so it won’t move or fall out.
Does it matter if the Lustre is past it's expiry date?
It should be fine. I have used luster that was 20 years old without any issues but as with anything I would do a test with it before using it on anything precious.☺️
This might be helpful, i used to buy semi transluscent glazes, in green for floral imprints. The glaze was by western ceramics, n diff from regular transparents, n it was a mix of both, but mostly transluscents n some transparents, in the perfect mix it shows detail from carvings n in lines, w varying shades of dark n med dark colors, in line carved, this mix if done right, esp on floral green leaves is incredible aeller, so much better than what you r using, n trying to acheive, its in the mix, find okd guys n ask for formula nbtrick of how they made tgese secret glazes. Went way up w just a green the lines ot made werediff darknesses .
Great suggestion!
One of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time on mono-printing
So glad you found it helpful!
I thought the app had free content?
Yes, the app has all of our free content too!☺️
I love Jeff! He's got the best spirit and energy
Jeff is the best!☺️
I have two jars of Oatmeal that have gone solid. How do I reconstitute?
I would add a tablespoon of water and a few drops of Darvan 7 to the jar then mix it up with an interaction blender. If it is still too thick add another tablespoon( or more) of water till it’s the consistency of yogurt.
Just bought the dragon stone excited to try out! Great video thank you
I love the dragon stone! Let me know how you like it!
I absolutely want them. Where can I buy those decals
The flower decals are from plumislandtransfers.com ☺️
I like timers for plant lights. That way they get the same amount of light each day.
That’s a great idea. I just turn it on and off when I come into the studio but a timer would be great for days that I’m not here!
That deep sea blue/green test glaze is gorgeous!
I have been using it for a few years now and recently made an urn with it. It has a deep rich color but still shows texture beautifully!
Happy anniversary just found your channel and throwing pottery ❤️❤️🙏👏👏
Thanks! I’m glad you found me! I have a bunch of wheel throwing demos here on UA-cam and if you want full length step by step classes I have dozens just on wheel throwing over on ClayShare.com ☺️
Oh my God, scary story about the kiln. I am glad you got out 😢
I was a bit scared but luckily I had a cordless phone on me and was able to call Kevin for help!
You should include your cats in your Vlog . I love cats 🐈 😻 and dogs and all animals 😅
I should! I love animals too! 😻
😊
❤️🥰
Jess, Yes Yes Yes! UGtransfers of your drawings! For Sure!
I think it’s a great idea too! I will do it!☺️
Okay…so this is apparently not the place to get more information about your program.
All of the info about this workshop is available here www.clayshare.com/products/whimsical-garden-stacks-3-making-birds
The mayco glazes came out so beautiful - all three of the combos
Thank you!
Will this workshop be interactive?
Yes! It will be live then the replay will be actions to watch as a replay later.
Thanks so much for getting back to me Jessica. I’ve been watching your UA-cam videos for a while, but somehow I hadn’t seen one previewing a class before. I’m going to sign up! I miss having a community of “clay people“ since I moved back to my hometown after living in Santa Fe, NM for 17 years! We all have so much to learn from and be inspired by each other.
